Recognition of the College
The College has been recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council since 1986. Bangladesh Medical College has been enlisted in the World Directory of Medical Schools effective in 1995 published by the World Health Organization which entitles the graduates of BMC recognition all over the world. Graduates of BMC are eligible for limited registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. They are also eligible to take the United States Medical License Examinations (USMLE).
College Accommodation
The College and the attached Hospital in Dhanmondi are accommodated in three 6 storied buildings with arrangements for 600 inpatients. The new building of the Hospital, called the Community Welfare and Health Care Centre (CWHCC), was built to international standards. It has an excellent Outpatient Department in addition to Inpatient facilities. The College also has a Modern Accident and Emergency Department.
Classrooms
There are 5 large fully air conditioned classrooms for lectures. In addition, there are departmental tutorial rooms attached with the respective departments. The Anatomy Dissection Hall is fully air conditioned. The laboratories of various departments like Pathology,Biochemistry, etc are well equipped with instruments.
Audiovisual Equipment
Each class is provided with Multimedia Projectors, Computers, slide projector and microphone system. In addition Overhead Projectors are also available for teaching in classrooms and different departments.
Library
The College has a modern fully air conditioned library located on the first floor. The library has a collection of over 7,500 books including expensive latest monographs. It subscribes to 7 international medical journals on an annual basis. The library has accomodation for seating 100 students and 15 teachers at any given time.
The Medical Education Unit (MEU) is attached to the library. MEU has computers for use by students and faculty members. Fax, Internet and E-mail facilities are freely available and are widely used.
Bangladesh Medical College (BMC) is the first non-govt medical college in Bangladesh. It was established in 1986 by a group of dedicated people called the founder members who were imbued with the ideas of providing quality medical education, research and services to people of this country at reasonable cost. The College and the Hospital are run by Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute (BMSRI) which was established in 1984 and is a non-political and non-profitable organization.
The founder members dreamt of establishing a Medical College and Hospital with the aim of imparting medical education and after much talk and discussion, Bangladesh Medical College was established on 13 April 1986.
The objectives of the institute are:
- To promote and provide studies in medical science leading to a recognized graduate degree.
- To conduct research work on the diseases prevalent in the country
- To conduct research on medical education with the aim of raising the standard of medical education in the country
- To provide skilled manpower in the medical, nursing and paramedical fields.
- To provide quality medical care and health services to people at a reasonable cost.
- To provide postgraduate training in various clinical disciplines.
Bangladesh Medical College started functioning from 24 April 1986. The Dhaka University granted affiliation to the College on 10 May 1988. Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council has recognized the College. The first batch of students from the College appeared in the 1st Professional MBBS Examination of the Dhaka University held in March 1990 after completing two years of prescribed course of studies.

They are also eligible to take the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE). The college has a new 6 storied academic building with adequate parking facilities. Most of the departments are accommodated in spacious places.
The Bangladesh Medical College & Hospital is a tertiary care referral medical facility and provides excellent training to students and junior doctors. The Hospital has 600 (beds) and is well equipped and provides quality health care to the peoples home and abroad at reasonable cost. The entire hospital staff is dedicated to excellence and service.

College has a fully air conditioned library with an excellent collection of latest books, monographs, journals, magazines and newspapers. Students are permitted to borrow books from the library. The library also provides photocopying facilities at a nominal charge. The library is open between 8 am and 8 pm on all working days of the week.
The Medical Education Unit has modern computers, printers (laser, Ink-jet), scanner, internet and e-mail facilities. The Computers are freely available to the students.
Common room for students with television with cable connection, indoor games and entertainment facilities are available.
Facilities for outdoor games and tournaments at the adjacent Abahani playground. Sports and other extracurricular activities are actively encouraged.
A good canteen for students is available in the campus.
College medical journal is published every six months and is indexed with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
The College and Hospital have ambulances and microbus for transporting patients and small groups of students. For larger groups, the College arranges buses on a hiring system.
Students publish wall paper and annual magazines. Debates, seminars and cultural events are held regularly.
